One of Walter’s priorities was to restore the fireplace, which had been converted to a wood stove. The old-fashioned cooking crane was made by Alabama blacksmith Neil Faulkenberry.
Adze and broadaxe marks are visible along the logs. A narrow ledger rail on the wall supports the floor joists.
Hanging pegs were preserved from the original cabin.
Above and below: Cabin expert and furniture maker Butch Fuller crafted the chairs and other pieces for the house. A ladder leads to the sleeping loft. The floor joists and also the ledger rail have a bead design, done with a small tool called a scratch stock.
